Introducing:
THE TASTIE TRIO!
A little about us (since we've been going strong since February 20th, 2016 haha such a long time).
We decided to start this blog in the midst of our first girls night.
After nailing down a date that we all could make the time of girls night. Never knowing what the night had in store for us. (5 hours)
Holly decided that we should Zambra. Which is a wine tapas & cuisine. Holly & Alexa had been here once before. We made reservations at 6 pm. We meet at Alex's place and headed out. O my was Asheville busy, there were people everyone. We ended up parking in a public parking lot that was below the restaurant. It almost looked a little sketchy. We had a nice walk up to Zambra. The placement of the restaurant is so cool. As you walk up it seems as if you have found this hidden gem. The entire walk is up a ally way that has a 2 lane road coming through, Zambra's door is the only door in the large scale brick wall that opens out to Walnut St. in Asheville.
As we walk in the lights are dimmed to give a classy, up scale feel. There is spanish, moroccan flare everywhere. From the door ways the the pillows on the couches that are in a few of the corners. Unfortunately, I was not overwhelmed with the greeting we got when we walked in. We were seated at a table that was placed on the outer edge of center of the room. The place is quite small. So it did seem like it was going to be a squeeze if anyone sat near us. But by gosh it wasn't. I never once bumped anyone the 20 times I got up to pee. We started our dinner with a drink, Lex had a Raspberry Martini, Holly had a Pomegranate Cosmo, and for me, I'm the worst at ordering wine, I never know what I like. So I (with the waitress's help) I orederd a rose wine. Well, I wasn't too pleased with the taste of my wine, It was sweet just like a rose should be. I guess. Let's just say it was sweet tasting as they told me it should be. So I asked to sample a white wine instead, It was good but still not what I was looking for. Our waitress was so helpful in my decision. She asked me if I would like her to make it into a spritzer. O>M>G was that the best idea ever.
After getting the drinks figured out we started looking over the menu. I tell ya our waitress was off the chain. She asked if we had ever been the Zambra before, and if we would like her to go over the menu. I was the only one that had never been. The girls said go ahead, so she is explaining that they have a fresh daily menu and then they have a all the time menu. Which is pretty amazing. Also she told us that the dishes a prepared in smaller sizes so you can share several of them with everyone at the table, we could also have the dishes sent out in a steady flow so we were never with out a plate of food on the table. So we all decided that we would start with ordering 2 a piece. We began with pork egg rolls, bread crushed tofu, seared calamari with kale salad, grilled salmon on a bed of rice with pineapple salsa, lamb, roasted quail, moroccan seasoned scallops, I believe that's all the real food we ate. Ha Ha. I think we ate food for at least a hour and a half. She was totally right we had a nice steady follow of food never once with out a plate of food. SCORE!!! We sat for a little while and talked and drank. Our water glasses never went below half way. Then for the best part of any meal dessert. O my O my we had a bread pudding, which right away I was not excited about (I've never had one that I was crazy over), it had a raspberry sauce drizzled over the top. I do have to say that was my favorite. We also have flan which I had never had before, it was good but nothing to write home about.
During the time we were ordering dessert we notice some movement going on at the front of the restaurant, there was a group of younger guys sitting up musical instruments. THEY HAD A LIVE BAND. I was blown out of the water with Zambra's food but now this, I'm falling out of my chair now. We sat there for at least another hour and listened to the music and gossiped about everything under the moon. Now the worst part of the meal is coming, walking right up to us .... du .. du .. duuhh ..... the check. We all are getting a little wiggly at this point, as we ordered we kinda forgot to pay attention to prices, but to my surprise our bill was not that bad. We split the bill 3 ways and we each paid $60. Defiantly a lot more than I would normally spend on going out, but for drinks and a great time with my girl friends I think its pretty amazing.
So last we decided that were all going to the bathroom together on our way out. So 1 thing to know about this bathroom it's almost like a scary movie. You walk the back of the restaurant turn the corner and it's like your walking down a ally way to no where. The lights are dim, there is no signs anymore, where do you go, who knows, then as you keep going straight, there is another turn, it looks like it goes outside to the ally, there is a closet with a curtain draped in front as the door. Am I ever going to get there, in like 20 steps I'm there, hehehe. It's really not that bad but the first time walking to it by yourself it feels like the beginning of a scary movie. So as we finish up we all decide that we must walk out the sketchy exit door way that looks like its leading outside.
We walk out the door to a nicely lite, open stairwell, as we headed back to the car we never once worried that we were unsafe. Great location. I would totally go back here and recommend this restaurant to anyone that is looking for a laid back but nice atmosphere for a romantic dinner, or a evening with friends.
